Tutorial for today involves my first attempt at "recreating" someone else's tutorial while inadvertently adding my own twist. You call them mistakes I call them just being creative. At least that's what my mother taught me. The only thing I have sewn previous to this would be my curtains. So bear with me as I attempt fashion....

Reasons I like this tutorial:

1. Easy (if you know basic sewing - first dress =  would be a medium level)

2. Cheap - use an old tank-top (free), elastic ($3) and fabric (2 yards - about $5-8)

3. Fits all sizes (no matter if you expand or not)

4. Great to practice your sewing - you will still feel accomplished!

My result:

Things I learned:

1. Color of thread matters (it hides your mistakes)

2. TYPE of stitch matters (zig-zag keeps the elastic stretching - other stitches NOT so much)

3. Jersey fabric is the devil. NOT a good starter fabric

4. It's hard to keep a straight line on a circular dress (still working on that one)

5. The elastic and fabric need to go on the inside...

6. This actually was pretty easy/ a great tutorial.

I really love feathers. This must be explained by the fact that I had a Pocahontas barbie when I was younger. I love just around the riverbed. You bet. But I love how they are so soft and earthy and make me feel like I should be friends with an old tree and a singing raccoon. If only life were like Disney movies.

There isn't much of a tutorial that goes along with this - But I think it may be pretty easy to figure out. My GUESS is if you got one of those stitching circles, either string or fishing string, and feathers.

My new blog post of the week - My Monday's. My goal is to either make up a tutorial or test out another tutorial and give you the scoop. I've kept myself really busy just for you guys and this first one is actually quite fun AND i made it up myself. Don't worry the ribbon is already on the wall. I also like to do things cheap - thanks to my new coupon / hoarding addiction - so I'll also break it down by the dollars as well plus any coupons you could use. Hope you like!

Super Cute Scrapbook Paper Art.

Level - SUPER easy.
Supplies:
1. Vintage Stack Scrapbook Paper ( on sale at Michaels - OR use 40% off coupon for a great deal!)
2. 6 Ikea Frames - 11 by 14 = 1.99!
3. Scissors
4. Pencil
5. Strong Fingers

Step 1: Gather Supplies

Step 2: Choose Favorite Paper - Get ready to cut!

Step 3: Remove paper and cut to size

Step 4: Place paper into frame and use those super strong fingers to manhandle the clips - worst part.

Step 5: Enjoy as a great table top picture or hang as a collage!

I'm going to try something new on Mondays. My OWN tutorials. Yes. I am going to see if I can not only find / make up cool stuff but actually try to accomplish it and give you the REAL truth on how easy it is. I cannot tell you how mad I get when they say "OH this is SOOOO easy!" Than I look at my project and cry than eat chocolate because I never got past step one. Anybody with me? SO I will search pinterest galore and have a whack at some amazing "crafty" finds. Or just make them up myself. I live life on the edge anyway. Wish me luck. And wish my husband his sanity.

I am not a believer in rulers or measuring. This will become very apparent when I show you my sewing technique. It's working out fairly well I must say. But most of all I HATE measuring for picture frames and or trying to find those itty bitty hooks to hang my pictures. So down a Dr. Pepper and off you go with this handy little trick. You may need to drink 3 just to have extra. Always good to be caffeinated and safe.

Tutorial Thursday #14 - Porcelain Plate

This tutorial totally spoke to me because I love plates. Antique plates, weird plates, fun colored plates, and definitely ones that don't match. I have never been a matchy matchy type of person. Sorry Martha but something about the garage sale, grandma's house, old barn furniture style just speaks to me. And you don't  have to be rich - another plus. So when thinking of a homemade gift - THIS is a great idea. Birthdays, Weddings, or even a whole fun set. Personal and totally NOT expensive. Your pocket book will thank me later.
